"We (the Vale of White Horse District Council) have been working with SOMA since last Autumn to help ensure that our services are accessible for people from different religions and cultures.

The Association has been really positive and happy to help us with this, for which we are very grateful. For example, in March, the Council helped to run an advice event for BME businesses in Abingdon and SOMA representatives promoted this to their members and encouraged their relevant members to attend.

Two representatives from SOMA also attended a workshop in July to give feedback to external assessors about the Council’s work in promoting equality and diversity.

SOMA has been pro-active in engaging the Council in its own activities and is also keen to support local community events

(for example, SOMA had a stall at the South Abingdon Community Fun Day in July). I have found the Association to be welcoming, supportive and positive to work with."

We are an organisation based in Abingdon and the local areas. We are local residents with local aims. We promote Islamic values by demonstrating sincerity, kindness, generosity, and interfaith dialogue to everyone in the South Oxfordshire area. We also aim to provide facilities for local Muslims, such as organising Friday prayers, Saturday school for Children, and much more.
	By working alongside Local Council, Police Community Officers, and Ethnic Minority groups etc, we feel part of our community and take an active role in decisions that matter to us.
